The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, Germany 2010

To all my readers, I wish Merry Christmas! Maybe you rejoice, yes, if your in the midst of the crowds that the festival brings so with it, look in between a quiet little photo can. So here is my review of the year.

My highlight this year was not always pretty sure the time on the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig . Rest and walking, and make every now and then a few photos - which more could you want! The first day I had several cameras and lenses in a backpack, but then began my liberation: From the second day I only had the Olympus E-P1 with the Panasonic 20mm F1.7 pancake here, and there is no further Geraffel. Ok, it was of course a spare battery and a polarizing filter, but those are small things.

And such is created including the picture shown here. Of course, the polarizing was important to take out some reflections on the leaves so that they appear as beautiful deep green. Thus, the polarizer is to me personally about the only filter that should really have as a photographer, because its effect can be not only after the problem on the computer. If one uses the polarizing filter properly, as the sky appears deep blue and very beautiful deep green leaves. All other filters provide a maximum of annoying reflections, and especially the UV-filters are almost always completely unnecessary unless you are shooting in a neighborhood where a lot of sand or sea water flying around, which should not come directly to the front lens .

Yeah well, maybe sometimes you can use also a neutral density filter to bright sky areas not to let burn out completely when the contrast to the landscape is too large. But more than pole and neutral density filters I have really not. (Note: The next post will show a photo that has been recorded with the help of neutral density filter) And if you already purchased filter, then you should also buy your expensive high HTMC multicoated filter. That provide better contrast and less reflections on the surfaces, and for this reason, it is simply not worth to give up because of a few € on quality as camera and lens have finally cost several hundred, there should not be at the expense of image quality . save Cheap is not always very hot, and the physics can not help just to listen!

As in my previous post I should also like briefly to the Image design received: like about my photo was the lush green of the leaves, the jungle-like appearance of the whole situation, including the brown dead fern in the left part of the picture, the sprawling moss, and of course the slightly blurred motion of flowing water, so dynamic in the quiet scene brings. I have deliberately chosen a slightly wider picture, to run in the background or the setting to capture the deep forest that looks untouched and impassable. What I like however not so good, that's a bit too bright white in the water, which stings a little too much out, even if it's not really about scans and the range of contrast with reality. If I artificially had darkened and it would look more gray than white, then the image works for me would no longer apply.

And what were your pictures of the year?

Merry Christmas to everybody who is reading this! Enjoy the snowy weather and the (hopefully) quiet time with your family! See you soon on my blog.

Genitaltattoo Galerie

other art work in the snow

ride in winter, Germany 2010

in many forums and blogs are added to the time tips on what to consider it anything to do with the camera's successful snow to take pictures, such as kwerfeldein on . I'm no exception, but I want to focus a put little different. In principle, namely, not much I change my settings to the camera compared to other photo habits. Actually I only put the exposure in the snow in principle to +0.7 and let me in the live-view display the histogram in order may additionally correct the exposure. But I've found that come with the Olympus E-P1 and the Panasonic Pancake 20mm/F1.7 very good pictures when I am in the snow on the Auto ISO and just referred to +0.7 EV leave, and also in the mode "A" (aperture priority) think about what I want to have depth. Incidentally I have also been almost a year ago in a blog post wrote it. Finally, I would like to again mention the obvious: One should of course take pictures in RAW format, so after to have in Lightroom still much room as possible for the harsh contrasts of the snow.

So much for the basics. If you have made these settings so you need to actually not go on to deal with the technology and can concentrate on image composition. In the first picture above I was interested in several things:

  1. The sign of a graphic element and a blue flash of colors in the otherwise monochromatic winter landscape.
  2. The "snow cap" on the wooden pole, like a Mirror image to the cap of the rider on the sign works.
  3. The person in the background, as viewed from the horse and rider, and repeat in their clothing is blue tones that match the color of the sign.
  4. The perpendicular and parallel lines of the post, the trees and the silhouette of the person.
  5. The orange and red colors of the leaves, which also occur in only dimly visible face of the person.
  6. The opposition of the walker on the bridle path, owing to the almost featureless expanse of snow, as such, is not at all recognizable.
A first glance perhaps appearing simplistic picture that in my opinion, however, contains many elements, and these are exciting relationships. Judge for yourself whether I have succeeded to bring the points mentioned in a good picture. It is certainly not a photo, in which direct a "wow-great!" Effect, but there are also other, still images, and also you can practice well to such motives. Finally, I just want to be prepared and choose the right neck, the interesting perspective and the overall successful composition, if it should eventually arrive actually at a photo on it, and I repeat a situation not that just can not and in peace may take several photos, as I could here.

behaves similar to the second picture, what I want to introduce today. Here it is all about the graphic effect, carrying on the slightly sloping from front right to back left running shadow lines of trees. As a reference point for the viewer serve two trees, the lower ends of the top project in the picture. With these trees, one of which is even bright lit by the sun, it is clear that we are in a forest. The snow acts as a canvas, on the one hand is like a white sheet spread on the forest floor, but on the other hand, is the contrast for the black lines. After all, is also a special shadow to see, it runs in parallel with those of the trees, but it consists of two lines merge into a single, ending then just before the top of the screen. This shadow is of course a man who is a part, integrated by the parallelism of the shadow lines in the image of the forest, and yet so not fit seamlessly. Again, a really simple photo. But you ask yourself why it works. If one could take away one of the elements contained? If not, it is reduced to the essential, and that's the point in photography, right?

you can a try to analyze your own images that way. It may also help already in place, aware of several very different sections of the same scene, take, or even later by software to select very different Beschnittvarianten. Which photo works better and why? Also this gives train his eye and continue to develop photographs. If you like, you can also like a link to your photos in the post comments, then I write something to you and analyze your pictures on request. Or you send me what things you have noticed in my photos, and to what extent you agree or not my analysis. I appreciate every comment from you!

The third and final picture for today is absolutely the most unspectacular. A small green branch with minute spines, protruding from the snow. The white surface of the soil is a yellow-orange pine needles littered the back and forth above and next to each other. The dead needles symbolize decay, the white snow cold death, and the branch is in spite of its thorns for a new start, life, and spring ... That sounds very cliché, because it shakes me almost. This photo came to me now in retrospect but not so good, but I wanted to show it to you anyway, because it now runs once a photographer of life, not all images are managed in the end really, even if they may not have failed entirely. You

can learn to "read" a photograph. It helps you to capture your own vision into your pictures. Get rid of everything in the frame that does not help to say what you want to say! Keep it simple, you know.
