The first League match is now history. And it was so lala ... About the Super Sprint on the morning we should have better cover the cloak of silence. There really was nothing together. went to 17th place in the race I'm the first 150m was only gasping on the road. The water in the portable pool was really really bad cold. On the way to the transition area I've already got stitches and then the first change has only been missing that I set my socks and dress. On the bike it was not so outstanding, and then the final 1.4 km run I have done the stitch life really hard. Bottom line: 82nd place Well, what can one say? Could have been worse, there were 89 people at the start so ...:- D Since it with my teammates even ran as non-bang-up - I would specifically exclude the Andi, who was traveling as a moped - at the end was the 15th Place among 18 teams to book. The starting point for the team pursuit in the afternoon was therefore not so rosy. But we have let the humor and are fully motivated to go though already far behind in the race. This time it went for me personally when Swimming again much better than in the morning and the guys from my team, it seemed like to go, because we have been able to catch up when swimming the gap of 25 seconds on the team before us and overtake them if they switch. On the bike we were also really fast on the road. As I said on that day Andy had much in common with a motorbike and drove almost everything associated with train on the chain from the front ... Running unfortunately had to Benni, who was on the bike had problems with cramps, just get in exchange. So now all had to, because time is the fourth man counted. Unfortunately, Manu got to start doing some cramping. He has shown a very strong race and bitten through. We were also in the running again very quickly and could almost catch the team from Weimar, who went with a minute ahead of us in the race. That was 10 seconds too much ...;-) was the end, so 13th place in the results, but with the 7th Time of all teams.

Where To Build A Custom Bmx
photographers on Nigardsbreen, Norway 2008
In recent days, I repeatedly asked: "What camera should I buy only model with the features X 1, 2 and 3, or rather device Y with the features 4, 5 and 6? I have always tried to respond sensibly to the questions, whether by mail or here in the comments. (Please write me such questions better in the comments, because then all have some of the answers!) However, I have decided to write a separate post in which I would like to gather some basic thoughts on the camera purchase.
First of all I want to list some criteria that could play a role for you, before I will give my wise advice. So, what things play a role in choosing the right person for you photo equipment? The following list is not exhaustive and will appear in totally random order.
- size and weight: Are you willing to carry much, or do you prefer something in your pocket?
- money: How much are you willing to spend for your new camera? (And how much for the best lenses plus memory card, spare battery, bag, etc.)
- resolution enough for you inevitable snapshots of the compact camera with 8 or 10 megapixels, or you need a digital SLR camera with 12 megapixels, or even the highest 24-megapixel resolution?
- sensor format: Is a small digital camera chip, or should it be a Four Thirds sensor, or is essential at least an APS-C device ago, perhaps even the full-frame sensor or the medium format?
- High ISO capabilities: Do you need really noise-free ISO 3200, or perhaps meet ISO 800 and a little post?
- lenses: the focal length / light levels you need for your photos and what system you get it? Do you want convenient zoom or fixed focal length requested?
- motives: What pictures do you want? How fast to move your images, or are they still even?
- image products: What do you want to do with your photos? Do you want to print them or exposed at present? If so, how big? Or would you show it on the Internet or make a DVD show of it?
- Features You Need's most innovative, the touch screen or face recognition, or would you even an older machine or one with fewer buttons and functions?
- brand: Do you have a particular brand of camera, because one of your examples may have photographed it, or because you think that a particular company a dominant position or has a large selection of accessories?
- Prestige: Do you need to feel that your new camera is special, perhaps even a status symbol, or is it you do not care that it is a mass product, which have many? Must it be a so-called "professional" device, or enough, the "Semi-Pro" - or "beginner" class?
- design: Like the camera a certain appearance to most, or you can not shape and color of the device so important?
- feel: How to feel your camera, if you do is in hand? Plastic is ok for you, or should the upper be more metal or leather? Which camera feels to the touch in the photo shop on well, who does not?
- Software: How much do you want to edit your photos? Will you have jpegs or work with RAW quality?
- reviews and buying recommendations: Does it make you a lot of fun for days to surf the Internet, to roll reviews, write forum posts about this and many prizes (new / used) to compare and speculate on the next perhaps newly released models, or you is all that annoying, and you just want to make only photos?
- Durability Plan , You that you should accompany your new camera in the coming years, or could it be that you within a few months or no later than next summer again sell to try out a newer model or even a different brand because there may be technical innovations?
- Personal development: Do you think you like to do with a "simple" camera, and then later when your photography skills are up to buy a "better" camera, or would you rather directly with a "great" enter model, not to limit yourself to in your development, at the risk that you get details on Ford's first or perhaps not at all know where you can develop yourself as a photographer at all?
- etc. etc. etc. ..
Should I even re-enter again, or completely change the system, I would follow do, and I recommend it be any of you so that you may save much time and money:
- This is the most important: Set a time limit , when your decision is to be cast! It makes sense to actually exceed a period of one week to ten days, because more time is not necessarily a more meaningful information. Be consistent and tolerate no delay. Meet the decision and stick to it.
- within such time limits should look at you, make you want to which photos (people, animals, sports, macro, landscape, nude, etc.), and then if you have the photographers, whose photos you can find good, just ask what Camera and what lenses to use it. Alternatively, you can make of course also choose a specific camera and see if there is a photographer who makes this camera the photos you like. In the Internet there are enough visual examples and give real photographers, the information. Go in a photo shop and take hold of the cameras, but without buying anything right at the first visit.
- If you have taken your time out after the decision, then do not compromise everything! If you have not money enough, then save until you have it together. you purchase only the exact camera that you really like and you fun, and you want to have, because otherwise you'll always see you after this camera useless and only spend money for the "second choice", which you will sell it so soon, because it did not wish your camera! The same applies to the lenses.
- Nearly as important as the first point: set yourself a time period, how long you keep the camera and lenses in any case! And within this period then You get the most fun and the best pictures out of your equipment, as it gets. You have the camera and the lenses that you want to have and stay with you because you want to take pictures, and you will increase your photography skills more quickly and get better results than if you were constantly re-think what you could buy another camera or still camera which you can buy to have. At the end of the period you can then start again at point 1, if you want.
least since I last year on my trip to Namibia already implemented some of my wisdom. So I was very happy, even if the leave of Nikon fell hard. Most of the equipment from Namibia Safari is still in my possession and is used regularly. Meanwhile, I have, however, the Olympus E-30 against the Panasonic GF1, and then finally exchanged for the Olympus E-P1, to an even lighter and more compact equipment have. My time in which I present my photographic equipment will continue to use is, by the way today to just under a year. Sometimes he adds a more objective not to, but. So I made it for me at least.
The reason is that is that I would fall back more on the content side of photography, but because it finally comes to take good pictures, right? So please be very disappointed not to if it here in the near future is not one test after another. I hope you also like to look at my photos! But do not worry, I will of course continue to pass on tips on buying camera to camera settings and software and workflow, and also my opinion on newly released Cameras and lenses known to do. Just let me know in comments what you are interested.
Believe me: It's all about making a decision and sticking to your decision. Get your favorite camera and lens and then enjoy it and take photographs and forget everything else. I'm sure that your pictures will get better and better!

What Are Some Good Gay Dare Questions
The cat on the hot hood, Germany 2010
Update: The analysis of this survey and the new survey can be found here !
Although the last part of my test report on the Olympus E-P1 is still outstanding, namely the comparison with the Panasonic would GF1, I still start now before a new poll, to ask all of you involved! Thanks for your clicks. Although I had asked a similar question once before in my previous survey , but since then it has some new things under the sun: New cameras have been announced, such as the Panasonic G2 and G10, and many other reviews about MFT cameras have appeared .
The results of last poll I've shown here for you again. It is interesting to me that the vast majority of subscribers at that time, the Panasonic GF1 possessed or wanted to buy. This is not surprising, since the time available first two models PEN Olympus had no built-in flash, and also represented the Panasonic Pancake 20mm/F1.7 a huge incentive to buy the kit with the appropriate Pancake GF1. So I've also done back then, and I point again and again that this great Pancake major stimulus for me personally, the MFT-mind system. The second noteworthy point about this result seems to me that many of you wanted to wait for the test of PL1. I can well understand, for 500, - € are still a lot of money on such a camera. But since there now are some reviews of the PL1 and many here are positive, I would be very interested to see in my new poll, to what extent the image has changed.
At the last survey, I had to be taken the slightly larger cameras from Panasonic with built-in search at all, but now that the models are obviously well run and is still evolving, a direct comparison could be exciting. Perhaps some of you already have a whole system in which one of the "larger" cameras with the Pens or the GF1 combined as a second device? In any case, I have given you the opportunity to click on multiple answers to the account of the fact that many people today do have several cameras and schedules for the holidays is also a backup body to bring in a move occurring Defect is to be without a camera. I feel this way for very intelligent, and yes I have recommended it in my blog post about my Namibia camera equipment .
So vote diligently and posts like more details about your camera equipment in the comments. I am always excited to read your comments and I also give you tips and information on specific issues, if your me which places. Incidentally, although I can not tell where my next journey, but I will very likely be much more difficult terrain on foot and in the road, and I've thought about already, what equipment I will take: Maybe my PL1 and the E-620, because they are so nice and small and lightweight and require the same battery, and of course the MFT on FT-adapter to use all my lenses on both cameras FT. Although the Panasonic 20mm/F1.7 at the moment so firmly welded to my PL1 sits and this combination leaves my right hand little more ... But yes I need a backup! So, what is your plan, how will you equip yourself for the coming summer and the next holiday, which MFT camera did you or will you still buy? Have you noticed how
the cat looks to the right side of my blog? She's watching very closely Which cameras you're going to tick in the poll. Choose wisely ...!

How Many Yaz Pills For Emergency Contraception
Saturday starts with the City-Triathlon Witten in the new season in the 2nd Triathlon league. It starts the morning with a relay race on a super-sprint distance. At the starting line in each case there is only one starter from each team - that 19 athletes - about 200m swim, drive 3.6 km and run 1.4 km. Thereafter, by deduction, the next teammate on the track sent. Of each athlete, the individual periods calculated out and formed the individual standings.
The total times for the athletes of each team are then grouped together and formed a temporary team score. On this basis, then takes a team sprint in the afternoon rather than chasing start. The best team will start the morning so at first, others will follow in the distance. The distances here are 300m-9km-3.5 km.
So everything is very entertaining and so both spectators and athletes alike. Another advantage of the event is that the 1st Bundesliga in Witten is at the start. First and second league start, in different runs but over the same distance.
The competition is also very spectator friendly tracks. Swimming is in a transportable 25m pool in the middle of downtown - and will be cycling and running on a 1200 - - which is unique in Europe and held 700-lap around the grounds. The competition is therefore to the audience ...;-)
I'm definitely really, because the event promises to be a highlight. In this sense, I remain
with a cheerful
Cheers

Premature Ejaculation And Weak Bladder
The "German Corner in Koblenz, Germany 2010
After minor delays, I want you now no longer in suspense, and here to Part 1 and Part 1a my test report to Olympus E-P1 finally the promised second Part of follow up. Meanwhile, there is also another place in a competent English-depth review at dpreview.com with which I agree but not fully. The following are therefore now my personal criticisms of the PL1.
Part 2: A few bad things about the Olympus E-P1 or
: Something to complain there are more!
The most important thing for me first: The auto focus of the PL1 could really be even faster. Although the firmware update has already brought some, but of course, the PL1 keep up with their contrast AF still not with the conventional digital SLR cameras that use a phase-AF. After all, the AF is fast enough to do with a little practice, even photos of pets and small children, but sometimes I wish for in such situations, even a bit more speed. And also has an AF-assist lamp as the Panasonic GF1, would not hurt, but I miss the little, when I with a bright Panasonic Pancake 20mm/F1.7 work.
Another wish for the next PEN would be a folding screen, as for example in the new FT-models from Olympus E-30 and E-620 standard. I wonder anyway, why not every manufacturer of this feature has long been in the program! I'd rather not do without it, even if the monitor is good enough to PL1. But if we ever are in the design, then we obviously have already ascertained that the PL1 occupies the top spot in the point "design." To this end it just seems a bit clunky, as you can see in the pictures in the first parts of my tests. Especially the accompanying picture shows the least successful side of the PL1, namely the rear. The protruding frame around the monitor does not spray just before and elegance would be so not even necessary when the screen would just be a little larger. But this would naturally lead back to higher power consumption and also more expensive the camera more. I agree with me personally in doubt with the present version of the PL1 happy because my camera is supposed to finally make good photos and function properly, and not win a design award or look good in the cabinet. Nonetheless, I moan again about the appearance: For my taste, the camera would love to be able to be completely black, the remote parts silver frame up / down / left / right not to speak to me so much.
What is the situation with more important things, such as with the handling? The lack of dials I had already mentioned in Part 1 of my test and it even slightly positive reclaimed, since once accidentally dials easily be served and thus lead to a wrong setting failed photos. Nevertheless, many photographers will likely change the aperture and shutter speed on such a small wheel easily from the hand over the keys. Olympus should not use any marketing moves just to a supposedly necessary separation of "upper class PENS and "entry-PENS make.
Another small design Macke I found when removing the SD memory card. Since that is the cover of the compartment for SD card and battery is not far enough (or in the wrong direction), opens the removal of the card from the PL1 designed unnecessarily fiddly. This may change in the next Olympus camera models easily. However, I work with 8-GB cards that I need not change as often as they can take well over 400 RAW images, so I do not consider this problem as so tragic.
Now we come to film mode, but rather represents for me a nice addition, but which is still part of the overall package and as Such certainly deserves attention. It does indeed have fun from time to film a small movie. Unfortunately, the PL1, however how many cameras do not film in Germany with the usual 25 fps (frames per second "=" fps ") will start, but only 30 fps. So if you want to bring the movies to a DVD in the European PAL standard, you must convert the frame rate, which usually leads to ugly jerkiness. Moreover, the films look from the PL1 a little "greasy", that smudge the frames of the film something together, which can be seen especially during camera pans. Some people call it the "soap effect" because we recognize him in the pre-finite television soap operas can (even if it is perceived by many did not or did not receive changes as disturbing). And finally, the refocusing leads within a movie (tapping the photo-shutter mode S-AF) to the fact that often a short stuttering appears in the film, if then after a short time the new focus point is found. So you see, the movie mode is a nice addition, and I like to use, it makes me a lot of fun, but for "serious" recordings, he is hardly useful. The PL1 is far from the camcorder to replace ... But still could make improvements at the Olympus listed criticisms of me quite easily, perhaps even by new firmware? But let's be realistic, this will probably not happen as quickly.
Some of you have probably been wondering what to do the input image to the post in the topic. Another photo from the PL1, well and good, but is now particularly well or particularly poorly, or why is this? Quite simply, it shows a flaw, just as occurs sometimes with very good resolution camera / lens combinations: Moire discoloration. The exact explanation you can read at Wikipedia . The yellow-blue-tinted parts of the front stairs and the vertical stripes of the back stairs in the picture are cut such moiré patterns. They arise very very rarely regular structures in the photo, but only if the anti-aliasing filter is very thin before the chip of the camera (as in the PL1) and at the same time so mercilessly sharp lens like the Pansonic Pancake 20mm/F1.7 is used at optimum aperture (F4.0 here). I had to now since I have the exact PL1 at well over 1000 photos of this one, showing the moiré effect! It is not therefore a major problem, rather the reverse: This effect shows how much can dissolve the PL1 and what focus it is able. Compared to the first E-P1-P2 and E was made by Olympus of the anti-aliasing filter for the E-P1 obviously thinner. This PL1 is so good that it this little moiré problem even with the more than 5,000, - € jointly expensive Leica M9! A similar phenomenon also shows that is Michael Reichmann's review of the Leica M9 (Example in about the middle of the page). I love the way the extraordinary sharpness and detail of the PL1 and take it like every thousand times photos in a single purchase, showing moire somewhere! These color changes can be quite easily removed by a selective desaturation in an image editing program ... Whereas artificially generated by computer sharpness quickly afterwards for photos and artifacts produced unnatural acts. Also So when I here moiré model performances as criticism, one should not exaggerate, but Olympus praise rather that they allow this extra little bit of sharpness. Who does not like, you can simply buy the PEN E-P1-P2 or E, which have the thicker anti-aliasing filter.
What made me even more annoyed are the software programs that accompany the Olympus E-P1, as they did not recognize me at first the camera, but I wanted to test whether it might not be a firmware update. I then used instead "Olympus Digital Camera Updater that can be found on Olympus this page . But even this did not work on each of my computers through smoothly. I've also seen questions on Internet forums from users who had problems with the update. I think this is unnecessary in this day and age, there should urgently repair the Olympus.
Finally, I would like to express some minor wishes to Olympus (although probably none of them reads this test here, but whatever). First, I would like to be perfect camera quieter shutter, which should now be loose possible. Not that the shutter sound when PL1 would be particularly loud, no, it's similar-like a small DSLR, though of course lacking the typical mirror rattling. But that is why it should but go to build a mirror-free camera, which is inaudible as possible, because then you could shoot even more inconspicuous and less disturbing, what example would be for weddings or similar events is very important. Secondly, I would like a more detailed battery life indicator that indicates to me precisely how many photos I can still do well and what percentage to charge the battery still has. Many newer cameras show that goes better, and the three lines display the PL1 is there simply no longer up to date. Third, it would be great if even this small camera remote controlled by infrared remote control, but would be shot again because the Olympus product policy across, this Only more expensive models feature reserves.
So, now that was really nagging at high levels. Perhaps Olympus brings with it soon be a PEN model, which includes the benefits of PL1 and also weeds out some of my criticisms. For that I would be prepared a little deeper into their pockets, and I see my pain threshold at about 600 €. But this is the future, and until then I am, despite the grumbling very happy with my PEN E-P1 ... This is the annoying to the camera manufacturers: you know very well that they are selling fewer new cameras, the better they make the current models - they do not put your left over improvements which, although now would be a long time, but then installed later, so that we again have a reason to buy a new camera. And what do we make technology freaks? We buy it but then again ... yes!
not forget: Go out, take pictures and have fun with the camera. Do not waste so much time with the technical details of the camera, I've done here now for you. And in the last part of my testing, I shall just briefly on a direct comparison between the Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic GF1, because this is certainly interested some of you.
write me your opinions on the Olympus E-P1 and to my criticisms in the comments, your view of me interested in helping out. And if you have questions, you can they also like. Do not care too much
about all the cons and complains that dpreview has about the PEN E-PL1. And do not care too much about my negative thoughts about the PL1 either! Have fun with this nice little camera and always remember: Take photos. Keep it simple. Tell the truth.

Best Entry Level Spotting Scopes
Last Sunday I started the Viviman in Berlin. The race was the following procedure: First, a mass start was over 300m swim, 10km bike and 2km run. Then it was announced a little relaxation and at noon it was in a pursuit race again about the same distance. The winner of the mass could therefore be the first to start back on track, the rest of the field followed by the respective residue in the morning.

Howmany Mintues Of Daylite Do We Gain Per Day
other day at the water hole, "Have you ever heard ...?", Namibia 2009
A little slide before it with my review of the Olympus E-P1 continues: Olympus away currently in a promotion campaign adapter when you buy an Olympus-PEN or you just bought. This should prove attractive to some interested readers here be, I think.
Once you can get in the period from 1.5.2010 to 30.6.2010 (date of purchase) to his pen an adapter MMF-1, which makes it possible that you can adapt all of its FT lenses easily to its new PEN, even with functioning autofocus. Even if the AF in some lenses not quite as fast as the FT-cameras, I use the adapter very very happy. After all it costs in the shops about 140, - €. In this link get him during the campaign to free his newly purchased to PEN. There are also the conditions of participation that you read and you just have to follow, so you get your free adapter also sent really.
The second action concerns a Novoflex adapter, which allows you to connect external lenses of other manufacturers to the PEN. This also works well, but unfortunately, of course, then no auto focus. In this campaign you get the adapter while not fully paid, but at least there is a discount of 20%, and therefore for a purchase price of approximately 125, - € again 25, - €, which you then save. This action is between the 15/04/2010 and the 30.6.2010 (date of purchase of PEN). One must, however, the terms and conditions also follow closely and then go with his printed voucher at a participating merchant. All other necessary information can be found on this page at Olympus. Actually, there is such a Novoflex adapter for all your lenses, so you can connect to MFT (eg, Leica, Canon, Nikon, etc.), just the adapter for the old Olympus OM system is hereby excluded from the action (no idea why).
Feel free to also on a post in the DSLR forum going to pursue this discussion on the campaign Give away the MMF-1. But I would of course be very pleased if you told me about your (hopefully positive) experience with the Olympus-promotion here in the comments.
Stay tuned for the next part of my Olympus E-P1 review. My next post will follow soon and it will be about the downsides of the PL1 ...

Good Songs For Backyard Wrestling
four fingers, Germany 2010
Before I continue with the next part of my tests for the Olympus E-P1, I push this post with a short statement on today's announcement of a Sony. A report with details and technical data in this example, you can items of digitalkamera.de .
For me personally, this new system is not particularly interesting. For only one reason it is worth mentioning: It is more competition for the "Evil" faction of cameras (EVIL = Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens = e Viewfinder, lens). So it is of course also about new competition for Olympus and Panasonic with their Micro Four Thirds cameras. And competition is good for business, which is our customers basically good.
However, we can all stay MFT users at ease. For one, both Olympus and Panasonic are now in the field of MFT (and FT) as well established and so broad that they can no longer resist pressure from the market. Secondly, make the new Sony devices NEX hardly anything really better than the MFT cameras. Beautiful, the NEX has a slightly larger APS-C sensor (23.4 x 15.6 mm), but that's not the world against MFT (17.3 x 13.0 mm), as one can quickly see in a graphic comparison of similar sensor surfaces. My PL1 me is noise-free enough for everything else I would get me anyway, always a full frame camera. Also nice, the NEX has 14.2 megapixels, but honestly, this is such a giant leap compared to the 12.3 megapixels on offer currently in MFT? And certainly nice saves in the NEX another 50 grams and a few millimeters of space in your pocket when you consider only the camera but the lenses are again as good as ever not less than MFT and see in report digitalkamera.de more a little bit strange to the Cameras.
What are to make the NEX in terms of image quality in a position remains to be seen. I can hardly imagine that they are there, the PEN E-P1 by Panasonic Pancake 1.7/20mm can really be ahead, because with this combination I have to do in relation to the photos hardly anything left.
Sony is cooking once again his own agenda, outlining in my opinion does not necessarily progress for us photographers. The NEX example, have no built-in flash. You get included but one, but this increases the camera then again and yet not brighter than the flashes of GF1 or PL1. For this, a NEX also has no standard hot-shoe more, we could use the "real" flash units, or even radio release. She also has no optional electronic viewfinder, only an expensive optical viewfinder for the NEX-wide angle lens is also available.
This brings us to the crucial point, the lens selection. Sony introduces a new e-mount, for which it will be the top three lenses: The Pancake 16mm/F2.8, the Zoom Zoom and Super 18-55mm/F3.5-5.6 18-200mm/F3.5-6.3 , and that's it for now. Although you can connect via an adapter and lenses from the recent A-bayonet, but then does not the auto focus. Since I praise the MFT system, which I with my problems and also PL1 AF all my FT lenses can use.
As I said: For me as PEN E-PL1 users are the NEX cameras from Sony, not so much interesting. After all, a little fire under the butt of the current top dogs in the EVIL-segment, Olympus and Panasonic, which promote their development, we hope that the faster, to grace us with new, better cameras ...
Let's face the facts: Not every brand-new camera is a better camera than the one you've got in your hands right now. Stay calm, next wait and see what's going to happen. Take some photos with whatever camera you own.

Nortenos Get Along With Blacks
The preparation phase is nearing the end. On Sunday at 9am is the start of the Berlin Viviman in my personal go-ahead to the 2010 season. I am after all this to-and-down preparation, but also really excited as I am on it. If I am honest, that is, I must confess that I have no idea what I am currently on it. The training volume was very good since training camp, the intensities are still lacking. Also because I have the traction as I made a spanner in the works ...
Regardless, the weekend is finally back around and I'm looking forward! The routes go over 300m swim, God Thanks to the pelvis out there I would really too cold, 10km bike and 2km run. And so it is not too short, it makes the whole thing first as a mass start and then a second run as a hunting boot by any athlete starts with the time difference of the mass start in the race.
The race is probably pretty hard, because the Berlin Bundesliga teams are included, the athletes of the 2nd new in the League has gone HSV Weimar and especially the sport of triathlon Sciences in Potsdam and Neubrandenburg, including the U23 world champion Franz Löschke!
So, nothing to loose in, it gets serious ...;-)
In this sense, I'll give gas and do my best ... Cheers

first part of my reviews of the Olympus E-P1 that I posted yesterday, missing, of course, some positive features of the camera. Probably I have forgotten just because I make the camera so much fun and send me your use became so obvious that I lose about some nice things even a thought! So this is unfortunately all too often, we usually keep us anyway with more on the negative things that bother us, instead we keep the successful aspects in mind and to look forward.
Part 1a: Some more good things about the Olympus E-P1
or: The eulogy has another verse
In describing the practical handling of the PL1 I have forgotten the great quick-menu that you can call by pressing a key on "OK". I am so used to from my Olympus camera that I use it now almost blind. Sure, other devices have a good quick meal or even dedicated buttons for some settings, but that's no reason for it not be listed as positive for PL1. Because I also always use several cameras, I have learned to appreciate the fact that I remember any key positions must, but always with Olympus simply hit OK, and then a brief overview get all the important settings in which I can then make changes as I want. The deeper the main setup menu (which is on Olympus for my taste also achieved very good) I need hardly ever after I have after the camera purchase once the basic settings, such as focus priority or the limits of auto-ISO, etc.
Even the accessories I've forgotten something: the optional electronic viewfinder. It is intended for those who prefer to have the camera when shooting directly on the eye and the "monstrance" attitude with a view to the rear of the screen better all the world-tourist-Clippers Leave ... The viewfinder works perfectly the way, and leaves little to be desired, it is sufficiently large and bright and not too bulky. Personally, I like to do without him, because he just the camera but then again makes for a larger, and has also served me the good camera screen so far, almost always. If the camera directly in front of his face holds, but shoots across the screen "from the hip" photos, one is often much less conspicuous and can make authentic images without his motives to make the camera attention, and thus to destroy the moment . In general, the PL1 because of their small size, very very subtle and sometimes yes it has some advantages that it is underestimated by this small putative Knips box. Just imagine the contrary, before the intimidating mass of a conventional "big" DSLR, the best or grease with a zoom, and the entire monster is then before the face of the photographer and aimed like a gun at his victim - no thanks !
Another feature of PL1, which I cherish, is the little green focus box that you (almost) can freely move on the image. His size can be adjusted so that one can fairly quickly as well to focus on the eye of a person portrayed, without having to ensure that the AF but the nose or Ear has caught or anything else before or behind the person. You press on the back of the PL1 just the button with the magnifying glass and a green rectangle appears on the screen. Use the arrow keys, which are located around the OK button, you can now move this rectangle to the shot and there it is in focus, where it is located. If we reduce this focus rectangle still wants to increase the precision further, you just press the button again with the magnifying glass does, then enlarged the hole, and can now set about the Info button the zoom factor. I did that exactly once and put him to the maximum value 14-fold. Now I change in the daily operation only with a magnifying glass button to freely movable small green rectangle, and if necessary, the OK button to return to normal operation. As in the first part said: "If you describe something in words, it sounds much more complicated than it is in actual operation. I find it very well solved, come along well with it and am happy that I can set the focus area as beautiful fine, because then I really have full control over what exactly is provided by the camera focus. And that's when you crop the subject with the Panasonic 20mm/F1.7 really fun at open aperture.
So, I think this was really the first time with the many positive aspects of the Olympus E-P1. In not all, but some of these advantages make perhaps on other cameras, such as the Panasonic GF1. Please keep in mind however, that there is no question here first to compare the two cameras directly, I'm only at the end, the last part of my reviews of the PL1. And please consider also that there is still so great features are the PL1, that is changing so not because some of them are also found in other cameras! And I repeat: The PL1 is not perfect, but in this particular combination of many successful properties it is unique for me personally so far. But it actually is not completely perfect, and we will get the next part of this Test report view when it will go to the negative criticisms.
I'd like to say it one more time: I love this little PL1 and the pictures I take with it. But stay tuned for the dark side of it ...

How To Make Ninja Sprite
A fresh perspective, Germany 2010
So today is finally my long-promised review of my new Olympus E-P1. But this is no ordinary review, but rather a review of the personal commitment, because the technical details of the camera and any test charts for line count so you can find anywhere on the Internet. In my article on the PL1 is more about the little things you everyday until the use of a camera and noticed that in the same old magazine tests are not usually find so, as I discovered frequently. But I like all the external tester, of course, also crucial to the questions: Does the PL1 good photos? PL1 makes fun? Is it worth to buy it?
My report will PL1 on the Olympus I post in several parts, as a small series that appear in the next few days. We start with today's positive qualities, then follow the next part of the things that have not liked me so much, and finally I will then have a comparison between the Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic GF1 draw, which I had already discussed. Also, I had already directly after the announcement of PL1 in February a small comparison made only in accordance with technical data, still is found in the former Post . Most said there are details still to me, personal experience has confirmed my suspicions almost always.
Part 1: Good things about the Olympus E-P1
or: The ultimate adulation
This camera is fun. It makes excellent photos, especially with the Panasonic 20mm/F1.7 Pancake lens. It is small and lightweight and does not cost the world. - That I could actually stop the review, because the properties are so important that I know of this quality and no combination of other cameras. And I know what I'm talking about, because I know a lot of cameras of different brands from my own experience. Either you get high Bildqualtität or a small handheld package, but where else can you get both? At the moment, can only compete directly PENs the Olympus and Panasonic GF1. In my humble opinion. But I getting ahead too far, because of course it depends on the details that I will list now. Whether it for you, so play a role as for me, that you must of course decide. Although the graffiti in the next photo from advertising warning, I will not sponsored by Olympus or any other company!
image quality
The sharpness of the photos with the Panasonic 20/1.7 Pancake already at full aperture (!) Incredibly well. The anti-aliasing filter of PL1 was apparently reduced even further by Olympus in thickness. How and what is done in software in the camera to expect other artifacts out, I'm almost does not matter because the images succeed just beautiful, and because it focuses directly on the sensor, is finally the time is over where I and systematic errors focus in individual Objective had to fight. (And in many cameras with a mirror and the usual phase-AF, there is still no way to even readjust the focus!) The pictures succeed so sharp that I was in Lightroom even my original Olympus preset had to readjust a bit, because the otherwise over-sharpened images quickly impacts. Incidentally, the PL1 is now recognized correctly in the latest version 2.7 of Lightroom.
The exposure of the PL1 succeed in automatic mode ESP very safe, also the white balance works very well. You get often without further corrections, the Olympus typical fine JPEG images directly from the camera. I can clear even in the unfortunate and completely overvalued on "noise" type: Here the PL1 cuts even better than, say, the E-620 or the GF1. (Test patterns will follow in the final direct comparison of PL1 and GF1.) For me, enough already, the noise behavior of the E-620 completely, because for me it is more important to the visual message as the last grains of freedom from noise. And when I need it again very smooth and perfect noise-free photos, then I fear I'd be a full frame camera and consider myself not long on APS-C devices. Until then, I maintain all the "ignorant" like the prejudice the oh-so-bad-noisy Olympus!
Incidentally, the 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens is any good, you just can not the error, make it directly comparable with the Panasonic 20/1.7 pancake, because it can not keep up, of course. In my opinion, the 20/1.7 Pancake almost mandatory for a pen so that the photography is great fun, especially with open aperture. But as I said, the kit lens is a cheap addition (for 50, - € extra charge along with the camera) a real bargain, with which one can make in most cases, beautiful photos. Oh, and I still have forgotten the great image stabilizer, which is integrated into the PL1 and independently from the lens allows in many cases, even in low light still shots without camera shake. He is said to be not quite as effective as PEN E-P2, but he really creates some 3 whole stops, and save as many photos.
handling
Yes, indeed, the Olympus E-P1 is no dial for focus or iris. And so I run here on in positive characteristics? At first I also thought that I could annoy the always first having to press any buttons to change aperture or shutter speed and exposure compensation can. But I was quickly reassured: It's not bugged. On the contrary, it happened to me already in the E-620 or even in the GF1 (rarely) that I accidentally pressed the dial and thus unintentionally had a little to. That does not happen in PL1. And the operation is really quite simple, even without a wheel: you press the button once on OK and can then adjust with the four arrow keys to OK around aperture and exposure time (depending on the mode in which you are). If you forget that in the beginning, no problem, the monitor displays the relevant ads, small arrows, which button to press for what must be. Is actually simpler than it sounds. Personally I let the camera almost always in the mode "A" (ie, aperture priority, and thus automatic mode), and regulated by two or three mouse clicks from time to time by the aperture and exposure. So I can take the most time on the essential focus, namely on the photo or on the image and the image. And the Auto ISO, the upper limit I usually set to ISO 1000, the rest
Another beautiful creation done for a correctly exposed photo is the live histogram and the live-exposure warning (if selected) the failure exposed areas of the image highlighted. This is done in real time (!), And looks something like this as we know it from the playback mode of most cameras ago. Thus, the technique "Expose to the right" easy. By the way, the monitor back on the PL1 perhaps not so big as on other cameras today be sold, but it is sufficiently clear, bright and sharp, so the move a perfect control of the images is possible. With three quick keystrokes you can zoom in, for example, to 5-fold increase in the photo and check the sharpness. Otherwise offers the usual PL1 all play modes with histogram display, etc. Overall, I can with the PL1 after turning off all useless for me shoot automatic modes as well as I used it with a "large" DSLR am.
Since the latest firmware update, the AF speed is not increased. Of course, the PL1 no sports action cam, but with practice it is enough for a quick snapshot with children or dogs who do not play all the time still. Anyway, I'm at the speed of the camera initially satisfied, even if it is still better. But the AF meets his goal very reliable and is not looking around for ever, unless you shoot the proverbial black carbon in the dark night cellar with defective lighting.
wonderful, I find that Olympus has finally built a little flash into the PL1. As can be seen in the adjacent image you can flash that even with a little practice, "bounce", ie you hold it with one finger pointing upwards, so that he can shine against a white ceiling, get out of there to fall back on his subjects, so that the light is very soft and there are no ugly harsh flash shadows. It works despite the relatively low strength of the small slave flash in many situations very well. Otherwise you can use on a conventional hot shoe, clip, or a radio trigger, as I have done over the weekend during a portrait shoot. Here I used the manual mode, in which even up to speeds of 1 / 200 second the external flash sync still could (contrary to the statement of 1 / 160 seconds as "official" flash sync speed for PL1, this is true only for the internal flash). From 1 / 250 second, you watch but at the lower Edge the dark cap. If you have a flash with Olympus Super-FP High Speed Sync is used, you could still get much faster times, you are finally connected with the PL1 a complete system.
The Olympus system
This brings me to the point of my last great modern hymn of praise to the PL1: The full lens compatibility with the FT lenses from Olympus. All my lenses, I have connected via the FT-MFT adapters work perfectly, even my great-Panasonic Leica 14-150mm. Perhaps they are not quite as fast as in the latest FT-cameras, and the C-AF does not work, but they work properly with the S-AF, and thus the PL1 as a backup body for example a suitable E-620. It is also a great advantage, that just need the E-620 and PL1 the same battery and the same charger. We are always pleased when you can easily exchange accessories.
conclusion of the positive points:
I probably have forgotten still advantages of the camera because it has very many! The video function as I have not even mentioned, but I use the time more as fun in between, or for recording audio impressions or short interviews. I see at least in many cases no longer grounds, lugging a giant equipment when the PL1 with a few hundred grams in weight and a small dent in the pocket finally delivers the same quality, but much more fun. And alone with the Panasonic Pancake at the PL1 and the absence of much zoom range I have gained so much creativity, as I had not thought possible. The GF1 was good, but with the built-in image stabilizer, built-in flash and even better image quality for me PL1 nose right at the front. But I digress
starting again, the comparison will follow later with GF1. Until then, I can now (even without mentioning the negative points), the Olympus E-P1 recommend without hesitation, especially since it together right now with the 14-42mm kit lens already for 500, - € is to be had (for the relevant post order).
You might have noticed that I love this tiny little camera ... And what about you? Post your opinion into the comments, please! Thanks.
