four fingers, Germany 2010
Before I continue with the next part of my tests for the Olympus E-P1, I push this post with a short statement on today's announcement of a Sony. A report with details and technical data in this example, you can items of digitalkamera.de .
For me personally, this new system is not particularly interesting. For only one reason it is worth mentioning: It is more competition for the "Evil" faction of cameras (EVIL = Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens = e Viewfinder, lens). So it is of course also about new competition for Olympus and Panasonic with their Micro Four Thirds cameras. And competition is good for business, which is our customers basically good.
However, we can all stay MFT users at ease. For one, both Olympus and Panasonic are now in the field of MFT (and FT) as well established and so broad that they can no longer resist pressure from the market. Secondly, make the new Sony devices NEX hardly anything really better than the MFT cameras. Beautiful, the NEX has a slightly larger APS-C sensor (23.4 x 15.6 mm), but that's not the world against MFT (17.3 x 13.0 mm), as one can quickly see in a graphic comparison of similar sensor surfaces. My PL1 me is noise-free enough for everything else I would get me anyway, always a full frame camera. Also nice, the NEX has 14.2 megapixels, but honestly, this is such a giant leap compared to the 12.3 megapixels on offer currently in MFT? And certainly nice saves in the NEX another 50 grams and a few millimeters of space in your pocket when you consider only the camera but the lenses are again as good as ever not less than MFT and see in report digitalkamera.de more a little bit strange to the Cameras.
What are to make the NEX in terms of image quality in a position remains to be seen. I can hardly imagine that they are there, the PEN E-P1 by Panasonic Pancake 1.7/20mm can really be ahead, because with this combination I have to do in relation to the photos hardly anything left.
Sony is cooking once again his own agenda, outlining in my opinion does not necessarily progress for us photographers. The NEX example, have no built-in flash. You get included but one, but this increases the camera then again and yet not brighter than the flashes of GF1 or PL1. For this, a NEX also has no standard hot-shoe more, we could use the "real" flash units, or even radio release. She also has no optional electronic viewfinder, only an expensive optical viewfinder for the NEX-wide angle lens is also available.
This brings us to the crucial point, the lens selection. Sony introduces a new e-mount, for which it will be the top three lenses: The Pancake 16mm/F2.8, the Zoom Zoom and Super 18-55mm/F3.5-5.6 18-200mm/F3.5-6.3 , and that's it for now. Although you can connect via an adapter and lenses from the recent A-bayonet, but then does not the auto focus. Since I praise the MFT system, which I with my problems and also PL1 AF all my FT lenses can use.
As I said: For me as PEN E-PL1 users are the NEX cameras from Sony, not so much interesting. After all, a little fire under the butt of the current top dogs in the EVIL-segment, Olympus and Panasonic, which promote their development, we hope that the faster, to grace us with new, better cameras ...
Let's face the facts: Not every brand-new camera is a better camera than the one you've got in your hands right now. Stay calm, next wait and see what's going to happen. Take some photos with whatever camera you own.
